Why POWER ON?
Today’s students will face challenges we haven’t imagined, take jobs yet to be invented, and toil in a workplace constantly reshaped by the exponential progress of technology. Only one thing is certain: classrooms designed for the industrial age won’t prepare students for this dynamic era. A new century calls for a new paradigm. The sage on the stage must become the guide on the side.
The underpinnings of POWER ON TEXAS are rooted in significant academic research and industry-wide consensus about this paradigm shift that is underway in our education community. No longer can we cater to the world of yesterday. Just below are two pivotal reports that inform much of the content and vision of this project. Download the reports and see how this vision is coming to life.

REPORT: “Creating a New Vision for Public Education in Texas”
This report, created by the Texas Association of School Administrators from “The Public Education Visioning Institute,” is a consortium born from the work and ideas of thirty-five public school superintendents who came together as a community of learners to create a new vision for public education in Texas in 2006. POWER ON TEXAS builds on many of the concepts and issues identified by this group. As the representatives of over 1.2 million students, this report “Creating a New Vision for Public Education in Texas” addresses a broad swath of issues, including technology: “Digitization and miniaturization of information processing power are expanding exponentially and are changing the world, our lives, and our communities at an overwhelming speed. To be viable, schools must adapt to this new environment. We must embrace and seize technology’s potential to capture the hearts and minds of this, the first digital generation, so that the work designed for them is more engaging and respects their superior talents with digital devices and connections.”
